The KIHOKU Town Commerce & Industry Meeting
introduction
In postwar Japan, a lot of cross-industrial exchange programs and trading associations were set up to promote regional development. They enjoyed limited success as a result of inter local competition and non-cooperation.
In Kihoku town, we have organized a new type of business exchange program to maximize the investment effect on small local businesses and create new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
The “Tabekiri” project is a joint venture including local food processors and distributors. Its aim is to produce and promote local food products for the domestic and international markets.
We have developed commercial products from various kinds of seafood utilizing advantages of a small sized community such as adaptability and smooth communication. Furthermore, we called for local residents to participate in this project in order to nurture local industries and enterprises within the whole community. Our activities were evaluated and endorsed by the Japan brand Programme.
